Cambridge exams

The FCE (First Certificate of English)

Candidates who pass this exam obtain a certificate from Cambridge University ESOL Examinations which is recognised by universities and for employment purposes in most countries of the world. All candidates receive a summary of the results they achieved in each of the 5 parts of the exam.

FCE is administered by Cambridge ESOL – a department of Cambridge University in the UK. FCE is part of the Main Suite of Cambridge English examinations, which is directly related to the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework (CEF).

Who is the FCE for?
The FCE is suitable for those people whose level of English is adequate for daily situations including study and work. Candidates who pass the FCE possess a fairly wide vocabulary and should be capable of holding conversations and using an appropriate style according to the situation. They also need to demonstrate a knowledge of different register, politeness or formality to maintain a conversation.

Each year, some 270,000 candidates from 100 countries take the FCE. It is, without doubt, a valuable qualification for all types of work opening new career opportunities and for study both at home or in other countries. It is also a useful step in the preparation towards higher level exams such as the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English and the Certificate of Proficiency in English.

Why choose the FCE?
FCE is recognised by many universities and other educational institutions as a test that students possess an intermediate level of English. In many of these institutions this qualification is essential for entry on the courses which they offer.

3. Use of English (45 minutes) 4. Listening (approximately 40 minutes) 5. Speaking (approximately 14 minutes)

The CAE (Certificate of Advanced English)

Candidates who pass this exam obtain a certificate from Cambridge University ESOL Examinations which is recognised by universities and for employment purposes in most countries of the world. All candidates receive a summary of the results they achieved in each of the 5 parts of the exam.

CAE is administered by Cambridge ESOL – a department of Cambridge University in the UK. FCE is part of the Main Suite of Cambridge English examinations, which is directly related to the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework (CEF).

Who is the CAE for?
CAE is for those students who have a standard level of English for the majority of objectives including business and studies. Having the level CAE means a person who uses English correctly and with comfort in both social and professional situations or within education or teaching.

Around 60,000 people take the CAE every year in more than 60 countries. Without doubt it is a valuable qualification for anyone interested in persuing a career which requires knowledge of other languages including in business, medicine, engineering and many other professions. It is also a useful step in the preparation towards the Certificate of Proficiency in English.

Why choose the CAE?
The CAE is seen by institutions of higher education as proof of an adequate level of English for entry to courses delivered in English. The majority of universities in the UK and an increasing number of American universities recognise the CAE, along with many other colleges around the world.
